ABOUT Chacon Family
A pioneer in coffee growing in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, the Chacon family has been growing coffee on the slopes of the imposing Poas volcano since 1936. In 2009, following a strong earthquake in the area that left the farm without water and electricity for a week during the harvest, the Chacon family had to innovate. Traditionally accustomed to the fully washed process, they had no choice but to launch into the natural process to save their production. The black pearl was born! The Chacon family continued in this vein to democratise this process, which at the time did not represent much demand on the market. A winning bet!
LAS LAJAS
In 2009, the area was completely destroyed by a strong earthquake that left the village without electricity and drinking water for at least a week in the middle of the harvest. In order not to lose production, the farm was a pioneer and decided to produce the coffee natural processed like a black pearl, hence the name of the coffee at the time. Today in 2018, the natural process has earned its place and many improvements have been made such as slower drying.
